Little League

Saturday Ryan had his last Little League game for the year. His team did really well and ended up in first place. Ryan had some really good coaches this year. They were very patient, always encouraging and taking the time to teach the kids how to improve.

Ryan had a great hit and made it on base twice. His team ended up winning 14 - 0. Here is a photo of the team.

Busy Busy

June 12th was Ryan and Leahs last day of school. They had field days all day. The day started with some races. Then the kids rotated between outdoor games, crafts, getting tattoos, the nail salon, movies and other fun activities. Each class was assigned a color to wear. Leahs was orange - but she really does not have an orange top. Ryan's class had green.

Here is Leah with some of her friends waiting for their turn to race.
Here is Ryan with friends waiting. I was not able to get a photo because my camera died, but all the boys get their nails painted on the last day of school. His were red and black. I was able to be there for half the day. Parents are also allowed to take the kids out to lunch so we went with a big group to the Pizza Hutt buffet.
Leah and her friend Myah playing dressup and make-up salon. Leah is having fun with the make-up kit she got for Christmas.
Last weekend Sue and I were out for a bachlorette party. My friend Brooke is getting married this weekend.

Overall we have been keeping very busy. The kids started summer school this week. Ryan is in a cooking class. At first he was not too excited about it. Then he realized that cooking means food and you get to eat. Leah has an outdoor game class. In the afternoon they go to the park n rec program. A bunch of their friends are in it so that is nice.

Ryan has his last little league game tomorrow. He team ended up in first place. He has really improved from the beginning of the season. He had a good hit in each of the last two games. Leah started a jazz dance class this week. They learn routines and stuff. It is a cross between cheerleading and dance. She really likes it.

Flooded!

We have been having rainy stormy weather as well. Saturday I went up to Green Bay to visit my friend June. While I was gone Milwaukee got hit with some major weather. Streets were closed because they were flooded, business shut down early, the airport was closed, etc.

This morning Sue called me to see if I knew what was going on. My basement was flooded. It looks like at one point there was a couple of inches of standing water. Everything touching the floor was soaked. I had bags and suitcases, laundry, a couple of rugs and more. I also had quite a bit of stuff being stored in boxes. I pulled a bunch of it outside to try to dry it out. Some of the stuff was ruined. I also had to go thru the boxes to what shape that stuff was in. Most of it I was able to keep although I did end up having to throw out some stuff. Sue was also here helping. I really appreciated it. She did most of the mopping- with some "help" from Ryan and Leah.

Then I had to scramble to bring everything in as it started storming again!! I left two rugs out because they were still soaked and I didn't have anywhere to go with them. Now my basement will flood all over again with the current storm..... I am going to have to have someone look at it tomorrow. We are supposed to have rain and storms all week.

Tornado warning

The weather was pretty stormy today. When we got back to the school from the field trip the sirens were going off. So we were rushed to a room where all the kids had to get down under a table until it was safe.

Here is Ryan and his friend Joey under the table.
After it was safe to go to their room, they had a surprise shower for Ryan's teacher- she is getting married in a few weeks. The kids put together a book for her. She was surprised and really appreciated it.
Here is Ryan with Ms. Drksa.

Field Trip

Today Ryan had a field trip for school and I went with. We went to the musuem and had a scavenger hunt in the "Streets of Old Milwaukee"area. It was nice to spend the day with Ryan. Here are some photos from our day.

Here I am meditating in the Asia area.
They thought "dum-dum" was pretty fun (from the Night in the Musuem movie).
Then we went to the butterfly garden. Ryan was able to get one to land on his finger which was pretty cool.

After the musuem we went to tour Miller Park. Then it was back to the school.

New Book

Today Ryan had a birthday party so I asked Leah what she would like to do. She decided that she wanted to go shopping. We went to Barnes n Noble and she picked out a new Dr. Suess book. When we got home we decided to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful day and read. Here she is with her summer hat on and new book.

Ride for the Arts

This morning Sue and I and our friend Cathy did the Miller Lite Ride for the Arts. We choose to do the 15 mile ride. I found out last night that helmets were required....so my neighbor was kind enough to lend me one that she had. I didn't fit the best, but at least I had one.

Here we are at the start....
and finished up at the Summerfest grounds. They had music, food and vendors set up. I think that the kids might do it next year.

Scouting at the zoo

Yesterday Ryan had scouting at the zoo. He worked with his den to build and design their cub-mobile. There is a driver and a pusher and they take turns for a total of 6 laps. They also have to change elbow pads, knee pads, gloves and helmet every lap. Our den has 10 kids so we split into two teams. One team got first place and the other got second. They were within 5 seconds of each other.

Here is Ryan at the start of the race. He was the first pusher.
Here he his with his team. Their car also got 2nd place for design.
