Memorial Day 2011

This was our first Memorial Day here in Monroe. I am happy that Ryan and Leah have both found scout troops that they like. The scouts play a big part in the Memorial Day activities and march in the "parade". The parade consisted of the band, scouts, fire truck and a car with the poppy lady. They walked to the cemetary and participated in the ceremony there.

Here is Leah (white shirt).

and Ryan (camo shorts)

and the two of them together at the cemetary.

It was nice to be here for the weekend. We went on quite a few walks and bike rides. Nice to be able to spend some good, low-key time together.

Catching Up - May 2011

I thought that I would do a little catch up on what we have been up to lately.

My work was celebrating their anniversary and hosted a casino/ dueling piano evening. Sue came to Monroe to attend the big event with me. We did not win anything but had a lot of fun. This guy was our dealer for blackjack. We kept doubling down and ended up with a huge hand!

Leah turned 10 on May 10th - Golden Birthday!! She wanted to have a party at the house with a bunch of her new friends. They came over after school and played. Had pizza and ice-cream cake! She had a lot of fun.

Mother's Day was wonderful. The kids made me an awesome breakfast!! Stuffed french toast, fruit kabobs with a fruit dip and of course - bacon! Then we got a bunch of flowers and things and did some planting.

For school, Ryan had to do a big project on Nicaragua. The students were all broken into groups of three and assigned a country. They had to do quite a bit of work on it and then they hosted a "world fair". Each country had a food to taste along with their presentation and costume. Ryan did an awesome job and received an "A" on the project.
